A lovely place with delicious food on the map of Poznań. Without reservation, we found a table, although shortly after there was only one free one left. The lady brought the menus and took our order. The hearty plate for 45 PLN was packed with pickled cabbage, a piece of amazing schnitzel in crumbs, grilled blood sausage, perfectly roasted sausage, and a cheese-filled dish that was oddly delightful, plus baked potatoes. I was full. The schnitzel with potatoes and cabbage was huge; my son only ate half... Fantastic. The pea soup was tasty, slightly salty, thick, and hearty. The pizza with gorgonzola, pear, and bacon was delicious. Overall, we recommend it, although parking is a bit of a struggle, but you can manage.
Hey, you’re going for a walk on Sunday and wondering what to eat. You pop into the bar and can’t leave because the portions are enormous. The flavor is hard to describe in words – just amazing, and the price is reasonable for Poznań. Thank you very much for being here, and we will definitely return. Great job. Regards.
If traditional Polish food is what you want, this is the place. So far, I have tested the tasty pea soup and fried liver. Friendly service, the interior has a bit of a PRL style, which adds character to the place, but the cleanliness of the toilets could be envied by so-called elite establishments. I recommend trying it if you crave homemade dishes.
While traveling around Poland, I often want to try dishes from Magda Gessler's kitchen revolutions; I have also worked in the gastro industry, so I hope my opinion will be helpful. Visiting Poznań, tempted not so much by Magda Gessler but by Szymon's (Książula) recommendation, I visited Bar u Grochowej. Despite its off-putting exterior (it looks like a rundown cabin), I am of the belief not to judge a book by its cover nThe interior has its distinct atmosphere; despite the winter season, it was very warm, and even high-end restaurants (those post-revolution ones) would envy the service. Regarding the food, the sorrel soup served with mashed potatoes and a fried egg was the tastiest I’ve ever had. The mushrooms from Magda Gessler's recipe are tasty; however, my taste buds can’t handle that much salt; perhaps too much cheese or balsamic? ‍♀️nAs for the sour rye soup... I received it with a boiled egg, while Książula got his with a fried one. In terms of flavor, it was definitely better than what I've tried elsewhere in Poland; I have a trusted spot for sour rye soup served with a fried egg, and the one here was nearly identical, appropriately sour for my taste, with dried mushrooms superb nThe potatoes with 'gzik'... a traditional dish from the Poznań/Greater Polish cuisine; the 'gzik' was too bland for my taste, and the potatoes were definitely not baked but rather fried and then baked in the oven (there was a greasy taste to the potatoes).nWould I want to come back? YES! To try the hearty bread and check the favorability of the schnitzel in that bread nnRegards to the lovely owner as she is a very nice person.
The place has a charm from bygone times. Visiting Bar u Grochowej, I felt like a young man in the times of my childhood. I often visited such bars, and I cherish those memories. From the outside, it doesn’t look inviting, but inside, we feel at home, and pleasant. Music from those days, great service, tasty and substantial dishes... and that fire creating the whole atmosphere. It's warm and cozy inside. I genuinely recommend visiting Bar u Grochowej with all respect regards.
We were there yesterday for a Valentine's dinner. The food was delicious, and the service was lovely Our dishes were minced meat with sides and schnitzel with a fried egg We will definitely come back to try more dishes a great place on the map of Poznań.
I ordered a loaf filled with various things. The sausage was decent, the blood sausage okay, but overall it was unremarkable, just basic. The potatoes were superb, and the pickled cabbage was not my style, but still good. Unfortunately, the schnitzel, which was the star of the dish and sat atop the loaf, was so dry that it was difficult to eat. Additionally, it was covered with such an amount of dried herbs that it overwhelmed the flavor of all the other components. There was so much thyme that the whole dish was very bitter, ruining the rest. The service was friendly, and the atmosphere was nice, but I was disappointed with the food. 3/5. If someone lives nearby, they might pop in to check it out. But I wouldn’t travel further than 15 minutes by public transport.
This place is worth recommending; prices are reasonable, but above all, the food is delicious. The restaurant doesn’t draw attention; we ourselves were unsure whether to eat here, but we decided to go for it, and it was worth it. The schnitzel was excellently seasoned, and the soup was excellent. It’s worth visiting and seeing for yourself.
A very nice, friendly place. The portions are big and hearty. The prices are reasonable. The pea soup is fantastic, although different from home, the liver is very good.nThe bread with filling – here I have mixed feelings. The sausage was great, but the cabbage and the schnitzel were well made, and the portion was large, but the schnitzel had some unusual seasoning; for me, it should have just been salt and pepper. Here, there were at least two other spices – it was interesting, but I prefer it classic.nNevertheless, I’ll come again.
The schnitzel with sautéed cabbage and fried egg, along with hearty bread…. both dishes very delicious... My only complaint is that the bread could have had more meat than cabbage…. Water – simple, but delicious. The waiting time was a bit long, but I 'forgive' it to a very friendly waitress.
